BOPP Film Rolls
BOPP film (biaxially oriented polypropylene) is a clear, strong, moisture-resistant flexible packaging film supplied on rolls. Nexus Australia supplies BOPP film rolls Australia-wide, plain or printed, in custom widths and print designs for labelling, overwrapping and form fill seal packaging, and matches the film to the flow wrapper, VFFS bagger or labeller it will run on.
Also known as
- BOPP rolls, BOPP film in rolls or BOPP packaging film
- Biaxially oriented polypropylene film or oriented polypropylene (OPP) film
- Printed BOPP film or flexible packaging roll
What biaxially oriented polypropylene is
Polypropylene film is stretched in two directions during manufacture, along the machine direction and across it. That orientation is what gives BOPP its clarity, stiffness, tensile strength and low moisture transmission compared with unoriented cast polypropylene. The result is a thin film that stays flat on the machine, seals cleanly and shows the product through the pack.
Advantages of printed BOPP film rolls
- Clarity and visibility: a transparent film that lets customers see the product, with printed panels where branding is needed.
- Strength and durability: high tensile strength and puncture resistance protect products in handling, storage and transport.
- Moisture and odour barrier: resists moisture to protect products from humidity, and holds aromas in.
- Printability: accepts high-quality print for graphics, logos, product information and marketing messages, printed on the reverse side so the ink is protected.
- Cost-effectiveness: a lower-cost packaging film than laminates, with a low weight per pack that reduces freight and waste.
- Recyclability: a mono-material polypropylene film, which is easier to recycle than multi-layer laminates.
BOPP film grades
- Plain clear BOPP: for overwrapping, windows and unprinted flow wrap.
- Printed BOPP: reverse-printed graphics for branded flow wrap and bags.
- Metallised BOPP: a thin aluminium layer for a foil look and better barrier on snacks and confectionery.
- Matt, pearlised and white BOPP: opaque or textured finishes for premium presentation.
- Heat-sealable BOPP: coated on one or both sides so it seals on flow wrappers and baggers without a laminate.
Common applications
Flow-wrapped snacks, biscuits, confectionery and bakery products; overwrap on boxes, tea and cosmetics; bread and produce bags; label stock for wrap-around bottle labels; tape and lamination. Where a higher barrier or a different seal layer is required, a printed laminated film combining BOPP with PE or PET is the next step.
Packaging machinery applications
BOPP film on reels runs on flow wrappers for pillow packs, on VFFS machines for bags and on HFFS machines for shaped pouches. Because Nexus supplies both the machine and the film, the film specification, seal temperature and print registration mark are set to the machine from the start, which avoids the seal and tracking problems that come from a film bought separately.
Supply, delivery and support
Nexus supplies BOPP film rolls to any manufacturer in Australia, whether or not your machine came from Nexus, provided the film suits your equipment. Rolls are delivered to every state and territory and to New Zealand. Send us a sample or the machine specification and we will confirm compatibility before you order.
Consumables are priced by quotation. Nexus Australia is a member of APPMA, the Australian Packaging and Processing Machinery Association. Nexus also supplies and services the machines the film runs on, with technicians who install and support equipment in Perth, Melbourne, Shepparton, Sydney, Brisbane and Adelaide.
Ordering BOPP film rolls
Tell us the machine, the product and the pack size, and send the artwork if the film is printed. We specify film thickness, width, core size, roll length and the print repeat, then supply rolls to order. Custom sizes and printed designs are available, and the same supply covers printed shrink sleeves for bottles.
