Spout Pouch Filling

The Nexus Australia spout pouch filling machine fills and caps premade spouted pouches with liquids, creams, gels and drinks. Robotics and sensors position each pouch at the filling station, a measured dose is pumped in through the spout, and a cap is applied and tightened to a preset torque. Also called a spouted pouch filling and capping machine or a drinks spouted pouch machine, it handles a range of pouch sizes and product viscosities and is supplied and supported Australia-wide.

How it works

Empty spout pouches are loaded into a magazine or hopper and picked by their spout. A robotic or mechanical transfer places each pouch in a carrier, which indexes through the stations: fill, optional second fill or nitrogen flush, cap placement and torque tightening. Sensors confirm a pouch is present before the filler runs, so a missing pouch does not spill product. Filled pouches drop onto the outfeed for coding, labelling and cartoning. Dose volume, cap torque and pouch size are stored per product and recalled from the touchscreen.

Products it can fill

Thin liquids through to thick gels: juices, energy and sports drinks, water and cordials, baby food and fruit puree, sauces, dressings and soups, cooking oils, liquid detergents and cleaners, shampoos, conditioners, lotions and sunscreen, mouthwash, liquid medicines and supplements, energy gels and protein drinks, liquid fertilisers and pet supplements. The dosing pump is selected to the product: a piston filler for viscous and particulate products, a servo pump or flow meter for thin liquids.

Pouch sizes and spouts

Spouted stand-up pouches from around 50 mL single-serve drink and puree pouches up to 5 L bag-in-box style pouches for detergents and oils. Centre spouts, corner spouts and tamper-evident caps are handled with a change of carrier and cap chute. Because the pouch arrives premade and printed, changeover between pouch sizes is a change-part and recipe change with no film to set up.

Spout pouch machine versus other pouch machines

A spout pouch filler is the right choice when the pack has a spout and cap, which is the standard format for drinks, purees and refill packs. Pouches without a spout, such as zipper stand-up pouches, run on a premade pouch filling machine. Where the pouch is to be formed from film on the machine, that is an HFFS machine.
