Powder

The Nexus Australia powder filling machine doses powdered products accurately into jars, bottles, pouches, sachets and tubs across a wide range of industries and production volumes. Both semi-automatic and automatic powder filling machine configurations are available, supplied and serviced Australia-wide. Some producers know this equipment as a powder packing machine, a powder packaging machine or simply a filling machine for powder; the machine is the same, configured to your powder and container.

How a powder filling machine works

Empty containers are indexed under the dosing head, where a measured amount of powder is metered into each one. The dose is controlled by an auger screw, volumetric cup, vibratory tray or weigh scale depending on the powder, then the filled containers move on for capping, sealing or labelling.

Auger filling for powders

For most powders an auger powder filling machine is the preferred choice. A rotating auger screw meters a precise volume of powder per fill, handling fine, free-flowing and cohesive powders alike with tight weight accuracy and dust control. Auger fillers suit everything from spices and protein powders to pharmaceutical and chemical powders. Dosing accuracy is typically within 1 percent, and a dual-auger head adds a micro-dosing screw for top-up doses as small as 2 g, as used on the dual auger stand-up pouch machine.

Semi-automatic and automatic powder fillers

A semi-automatic auger filling machine is operator-fed: the container is placed under the head, the fill is triggered, and the container is removed. It suits short runs, product development and small producers, with optional weighing integration for checked accuracy. An automatic powder filler takes containers from a conveyor or a pouch denester and fills continuously, and is the choice once output passes a few thousand containers a day. Both use the same auger tooling, so a producer can start semi-automatic and move the dosing head onto an automatic line later.

Free-flowing powders such as sugar, salt, coffee, milk powder and seasonings; cohesive and fluffy powders such as flour, cocoa, icing sugar and spices; protein, collagen and electrolyte blends; pharmaceutical and nutraceutical powders; and granules, seeds and small pieces. The choice between auger, cup and weigher depends on how the powder flows, how much it dusts and how tight the weight tolerance has to be.

Container formats

The same dosing heads fill rigid containers and flexible packs. Jars, bottles, tubs, cans and pails run on an in-line or rotary filler. Stand-up pouches run on a premade pouch filling machine. Single-serve formats run on a powder sachet filling machine or a multi-lane stick pack machine, and bulk retail bags on a VFFS bagging machine. Tubs and cups can be filled, sealed and lidded on one rotary tub filling machine.

Accuracy and dust control

Powder filling demands consistent fill weights and a clean line. Our systems use dust extraction, anti-dribble nozzles and weigh-check feedback to keep fills accurate and the work area tidy, which matters for high-value powders and regulated pharmaceutical products.

Allow about 75 days from order to shipment for a standard powder filling machine, and 90 to 120 days for a complex application, plus freight and installation. Every machine is quoted individually, since the configuration depends on your product, container and line speed.

Installation and commissioning are done by Nexus technicians in every state and territory. They travel interstate as required, and for a complex line the manufacturer sends an engineer to work with them. Recent installations have gone into Perth, Melbourne, Shepparton, Sydney, Brisbane and Adelaide. Nexus also supplies customers in New Zealand.

Support after the sale covers machines supplied by Nexus: training for your operators, preventive maintenance, spare parts and technical help. If the machine stops, we work through it with you by phone or video call for free, and if it needs someone on site we send a Nexus technician or an approved contractor in your state. Common spares are stocked in Australia, and the warranty is 12 months return-to-base, excluding wear parts.
